Option 1 Staffing is currently recruiting for a System, Network, & Security Engineer for a direct hire role with a growing biotech company in Redwood City, CA.

About the job

The System, Network, & Security Specialist is responsible for the set-up, configuration, continuous operation, and maintenance of the network operation. The scope of the network hardware support includes firewall appliances, switches, Wi-Fi access points, servers, telecom, and UPS.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for the configuration and maintenance of all Server Systems, Networking Systems and Security Systems, as well as day to day operations of these systems.

  • Management of Windows Server infrastructure on premise as well as in the cloud via AWS or Azure.
  • Active Directory experience in a hybrid environment is critical.
  • Implementation and maintenance of all networking hardware including firewall, switches, and Wireless Access Points.
  • Strong understanding of VLAN concepts and experience implementing a VLAN architecture. Review organization’s structure and propose and implement network segmentation to improve information management and communication performance.
  • Focus on security and recommend improvements to current solutions that are in place. Review Firewall configuration and propose policies to further protect from external attacks and internal misuse. Forward thinking security mindset, utilizing best in class solutions. Identify opportunities to protect email infrastructure from unwanted communication, phishing, malware, virus, and ransomware attacks.
  • Evaluation and implementation of monitoring infrastructure to help create an environment where IT knows about potential problems before they happen.
  • Help create a scalable environment that involves multiple countries around the world.
  • Documentation of the environment, including all Systems architecture, Network diagrams, and Security configuration.
  • Support and improve current backup structure where appropriate.
  • Maintenance of Policies and Procedures that relate to Change Management and Release Management for upgrades to the Enterprise Systems.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls as they relate to IT recordkeeping and compliance efforts.
  • Support mobile environment with MDM solution.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business continuity involvement.

Minor Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide training to other group members so that there are overlapping skills so there are no single points of failure in the organization.
  • Assist with performance improvements regarding network architecture related to access to Enterprise SaaS applications.
  • Evaluate and suggest improvements to WAN and LAN architecture.
  • Monitor helpdesk tickets for repeating issues related to systems, network, and security topics.
  • Understanding of the Enterprise application that are deployed and provide backup for these systems when necessary.

Education Requirements

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or Management Information Systems

Qualifications

  • 6+ years’ experience managing Windows Servers in a VMware vSphere/ESXi environment.
  • Solid understanding of Network Concepts

  • MAC
  • Willingness to learn and take ownership of the environment you will manage.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deliverables, and short timeframes.
  • Work well individually, or as part of a multi-faceted team.

Must be self-motivated, innovative, success driven, and have a mastery of problem-solving skills. Manage system priorities daily and actively communicates changes to management and/or employees in a timely manner.
