 The Decision Support Manager directs and leads the costing and benchmarking team within the Decision Support department. Provides expertise and leadership in the areas of RVU development, indirect cost allocation, expense reclassifications and the development of benchmarking standards. Leads in developing goals for cost reduction by identifying opportunities in utilization reduction by service lines, and staffing efficiencies by process redesign as identified by benchmark comparisons. Guides service line analysis and management of costs and profitability. Coaches, counsels, and trains all staff members in order to maintain current processes and find innovative solutions to institutional goals. Oversees four Decision Support Specialists.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Finance, Accounting or related field and/or equivalent experience, education and training
  • Experience with decision support cost accounting systems including costing methodologies, report development, and patient profitability reporting
  • Experience working with benchmark information to make improvements in operational departments
  • Several years of experience in a leadership role
  • Extensive knowledge of cost-accounting principles and the ability to apply cost accounting concepts to products and patient encounters
  • Proven supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to effectively build, lead, support and motivate effective teams
  • Able to use critical thinking skills to recognize opportunities, report on the financial impact of proposed actions and work with leadership to develop appropriate business strategies
  • Analytical, statistical and mathematical skills to conduct complex and quantitative analysis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Able to present complex information to diverse groups, support findings and collaboratively drive change based on organizational goals and strategic objectives
  • Able to communicate project status with department leadership and identify and resolve issues impacting team performance and/or project outcome
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel, Power Point, and data analytic tools such as Tableau, or SAS
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects, prioritize and meet deadlines while openly communicating project status to customers and using interpersonal skills to negotiate deadlines.
  • Able to facilitate or actively participate in working groups while using interpersonal skills to achieve results
  • Knowledge of accounting, financial concepts, medical record coding (ICD, DRG, CPT), medical terminology and healthcare reimbursement
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and present complex financial concepts effectively to a non-financial audience
